Dear Reader,
The purpose for this website is to get you on the up and up about the famous play Romeo and Juliet. Also you will be able to see what life was like in the Elizabethan Era.
In the play there are two families, the Montagues and the Capulets, who have been feuding for years. Romeo Montague falls in love with a girl named Rosaline, however she can never marry him because she is a nun. Romeo knows he must get over her but he is not quite sure how to do that. His good friend Mercutio convinces him to crash the Capulets party so he can see all the beautiful girls and surely get over Rosaline. While at the party Romeo meets Juliet and they instantly fall in love. There is just one problem, Juliet is a Capulet and is forbidden to ever be seen with a Montaque. There two families have been fighting for years and don't plan on stopping anytime soon.
After only knowing each other for a day they both ran off and got married, nobody else knew about the marriage except the Friar and the nurse. Romeo and Juliet both tried to make things work but when Juliet's parents tried to make her marry Paris she had to find a way out of it. She goes to the Friar and explains her situation. In return the Friar gives her a potion to make her appear dead so her parents will think she has died and she will no longer have to marry Paris. After the potion wears off Romeo will be there to save Juliet and live a happy life together.
The plan sounds perfect but when Juliet's dad, Lord Capulet decides to move the wedding up a day Romeo doesn't receive the letter in regards to Juliet's plan. When Romeo gets the news that has died he believes she is truly dead. Romeo goes to the Apothecary and gets poison so he can kill himself because "If Juliet is dead there is no point in living." Romeo lays next to Juliet and drinks the poison. Later Juliet awakens and realizes Romeo did not know of the plan and has truly killed himself, Juliet also thinks that if she can not be with the one she loves she does not want to live either. Juliet drinks the real position and also dies.
I think this is tragic love story with a tragic ending. In the beginning of the book I did not see anything like this coming. I do not understand how Romeo could tuley fall so in love with somebody who he has just met enough to kill himself as soon as he finds out she is dead. I don't think it is fair for somebody's love to be forbidden. I feel bad that Romeo and Juliet had to keep their relationship a secret. Juliet had to risk so much just to spend time with Romeo. Thank you for reading this, I encourage you to look through the rest of my site.
Sincerely,
Sadie Schustek
